A number of politicians have tried using the phrase "of the people, for the people" but there isn't a more true example of the phrase than Ira Roberts.

Ira was born to two hard working parents who moved from eastern Kentucky in search of better opportunities for their family. In the 80's, they arrived in the Newton-Conover area in the 10th district. Both worked hard to provide and maintain a modest lifestyle. Their hard work and values are something Ira embraces to this day.

Shortly after graduating high school, Ira enlisted in the US Army on active duty and was later accepted into a commissioning program. While completing his political science degree at UNC Charlotte he was a member of the Army ROTC, Senator in the student legislature, member of the College Republicans, worked for the Department of Homeland Security, and served as an intern for former Congressman Robin Hayes.

After graduating from UNC Charlotte, Ira returned to service in the North Carolina Army National Guard as an intelligence officer. He also worked full time at the National Ground Intelligence Center and later at the Defense Intelligence Agency.

After gaining varied and expansive experience, Ira decided it was time to venture back into the 10th District with his family and give back. Currently, Ira is a board member on the Hickory International Council and works full time as a facility operations manager for a local distribution center. Ira intends to maintain his full time employment up to the election just like the other hard working members of the 10th district.
